Earth Science Globe Toss is a fun Activity

The Earth science globe toss activity is a fun way to find out more about the oceans and continents. A single person or whole group can do this fun activity. All you need is a globe that can be tossed around and a paper to record the results.

Materials

  • Inflatable globe
  • Graph paper
  • Colored pencils
  • Plain piece of paper
  • Pencil
  • Black marker

Directions

  1. Create a tally sheet with the headings oceans and continents on a sheet of paper.
  2. Place a dot on the end of one of your fingers.
  3. Toss the globe into the air so it spins around.
  4. When you catch the globe see if the dot on your finger is on a continent or ocean.
  5. Make a mark on your tally sheet after each toss.
  6. Repeat steps 3 through 6 one hundred times.
  7. Create a bar graph showing the number of times your finger touched an ocean of a continent.
  8. Use two colors for your graph.
  9. Repeat the activity with a group of people and see if they have the same results.
  10. Study the oceans by making a tally sheet that lists the worlds oceans and only make a tally mark when your fingers touches an ocean.
  11. You can study the continents in the same way by creating a tally sheet for the continents only.
